Arabic Lang 1943 watch sells for $10,800 at auction

A special Arabic dial and brushed bronze case made the unique watch highly desirable to a Middle Eastern auction crowd.

Among the usual Patek Philippe complications and rare F.P. Journes, one of the more remarkable results at a recent Christie’s auction in Dubai was for a bronze field watch made by LANG 1943, which smashed its pre-sale estimate of $2,000 to $4,000 to hammer at $10,800.

The watch was well placed at a Middle Eastern auction because it its unique hour markers using Arabic numerals.

More than 22 bids were placed for the watch, underscoring LANG 1943’s growing reputation among discerning watch collectors and enthusiasts, the company says.

“We are thrilled by the reception of our Bronze Prototype Vintage-Inspired Field Watch received at Christie’s Dubai Edit online auction,” says Georg Bartkowiak, founder & CEO of LANG 1943. “This achievement reaffirms our dedication to meticulous craftsmanship, unwavering attention to detail, and our passion for delivering the highest quality mechanical timepieces.”

The one-off, brand new, time-only watch uses a modified Marvin 700 hand-wound movement in a 39mm brushed bronze case with an exhibition case back.

The core collection version of the Edition One field watch in steel retails for €3,500.
