Rado is on a roll right now thanks to its high-profile sponsorship of the England men’s and women’s cricket teams in this Ashes summer.
It is backing up strong marketing with innovative products, including today’s release of a remake of its 1962 Diastar, a watch that broke new ground with its distinctive shape and toughened tungsten-carbide case.
The watch epitomised the mantra of Rado’s founders, who loved to say, “If we can imagine it, we can make it. And if we can make it, we will.”
It also meets the criteria of the modern Rado slogan: Master of Materials.
The Swatch Group-owned brand brought the Diastar back last year with a 60th anniversary version made from its trademarked Ceramos ceramic-based material.
Now it has a fresh edition for the summer, made from polished Ceramos, which looks a lot like polished titanium, a steel inner case, and comes with a skeletonised dial, exposing the inner workings of the automatic Rado calibre R808, a three-hand movement with 80-hour power reserve and an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring.
The 38mm watch comes on a polished and brushed stainless steel bracelet.
It is retailing for £1,850 / $2,050.
