IWC Schaffhausen has created a limited edition Aquatimer diver’s watch in a Ceratanium case.
The case material, which IWC started experimenting with in the 1980s, is described as being as light and unbreakable as titanium and as hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic.
“Since we already had a pioneering role in the use of titanium and ceramic in the 1980s, we are now once again highlighting our expertise with materials by employing Ceratanium,” explains Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.
IWC is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Aquatimer in 2017, and is marking the occasion with the launch of the Ceratanium piece, limited to 50 pieces, that has a digital perpetual calendar and chronograph function.
The case and dial black, and IWC has also coloured some components of the IWC-manufactured calibre 89802 in the colour.
The watch’s perpetual calendar displays the date and month in large numerals in the style of a digital watch, automatically recognising different month lengths and leap years.
The chronograph with flyback function displays stop times, combined in a totaliser at 12 o’clock.
The watch is being distributed only to IWC boutiques around the world priced at CHF 50,000 (£40,290).
