Elliot Brown comes to SBS veteran’s aid

British watch brand Elliot Brown has been commissioned by the Special Boat Service (SBS) to make a special replacement watch for a former member of the elite group.

83 year-old veteran soldier, Frank Marchington, was robbed near his home in Failsworth, with the attacker stealing his Omega watch worth £4,000.

When the SBS heard of the incident they decided to step in and do something about it. A spokesman for the Association said: “We only have 1,500 members; we look after our own. We have commissioned Elliot Brown, British watchmakers, to make a replacement watch for Frank. It will be embossed with ‘Frank M’ and his service number – 17316.”

“We will have it ready in about two weeks and send two of our representatives to present it to him in a special box,” the association continued. “Frank’s watch will be made by the company which produces watches for the SBS. It will be worth about £500, but because of its link to the SBS its value will soar, and for his family it will be an heirloom that will be priceless.”

Alex Brown of Elliot Brown was proud to have been able to help out Marchington in his time of need. “We hope our gesture will go some way towards putting things right for Frank, and we ask the watch community to contact Greater Manchester Police if they have any information about Frank’s Omega,” Brown said.

Marchington had bought his prized Omega watch during his service as a Royal Marine before later joining the elite SBS, a sister organisation to the SAS.

Anyone with information about the stolen Omega has been asked to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, quoting the reference 1116 April 5th.
