Bulgari has presented Maserati an early birthday present for the marque’s centenary celebrations with the creation of the latest watch in the partnership between the two Italian greats.
The Bulgari Octo Maserati, a limited edition chronograph, uses design language more recognisable as having automotive intentions than previous watches in the two-year collaboration and celebrates the founding of Maserati in December 1914.
The 41.5mm watch employs a tri-compax layout chronograph on the complex champlevé dial, date window and bezel-engraved with tachymeter scale.
Subtle branding sees the Maserati trident as a second hand counterbalance on the front while the reverse features semi-transparent, blued sapphire crystal caseback with the Maserati name and trident logo.
Bulgari has nicknamed the self-winding movement, the Velocissimo or ‘the fastest’, because of its 36,000vph frequency. Calibre BVL 328 features a 50 hour power reserve, silicon escapement and an oscillating pinion that operates as a clutch for chronograph operation.
The 2014 Bulgari Octo Maserati is limited to 1914 pieces worldwide.
