Zodiac has become the latest premium Swiss watchmaker to sign up to exhibit at WATCHPRO Salon in November.
The brand, now owned by Fossil Group, is marking its 140th anniversary this year and is investing in strengthening its presence as a in the UK.
Zodiac was a major player in the evolution of mechanical wristwatches in the 20th century.
It launched a self-winding watch with a power reserve gauge on its dial back in 1949, but really hit the big time with the introduction of the first Zodiac Sea Wolf in 1953, which became one of the first serious dive watches manufactured for the masses.
Never afraid to innovate, Zodiac launched an early electronic watch in 1968 to rival Japanese timepieces and then the Astrographic a year later, which became a cult classic thanks to its bold case design, floating minute and hour hands and a red moon that orbits the dial showing the seconds.
Despite a shift into quartz and LCD watches in the 1970s, the crisis engulfing the Swiss watch industry at the time was not kind to Zodiac, and it struggled to re-establish its former glory until the early 2010s when it returned to mechanical watchmaking with the introduction of the STP 1-11 automatic movement in a new generation of Sea Wolf dive watches.
The past decade has seen several Zodiac heritage watches re-introduced including the Sea Dragon, Super Sea Wolf 53, Olympos, Grandrally and Grandville.
The Sea Wolf and Super Sea Wolf dive watches are by far Zodiac’s most iconic and successful lines, and the family has been constantly upgraded and updated to suit modern tastes.
The spotlight at WATCHPRO Salon is certain to be on the latest Super Sea Wolf Compression Automatic watches, which comes in a wide range of colourways and are among the most attractive and reliable mechanical dive watches at a price point of around £1,500.
