WATCHPRO ORIGINALS: How Alexandre Meerson cracked Manhattan

After a successful stint as a Designer in Residence at Watches of Switzerland in SoHo, the artisan watchmaker is looking to expand across the United States.

Alexandre Meerson credits his father Emerich for his horological passion because he used to design watches for leading retailers including Tiffany and Bucherer in the 1970s and 80s.

Launching a watch brand in your own name, as Mr Meerson did in 2007, was a different challenge, and one that he took to with a watchmaker’s eye and a fashion business executive’s commercial instinct.

2019 was a breakthrough year for Alexandre Meerson, the brand, because it secured a slot as a Designer in Residence at Watches of Switzerland’s SoHo, Manhattan, showroom.

Mr Meerson was often in the store during that residency, meeting directly with clients and guiding them through the process of customising their own watches, which would then be manufactured in Switzerland.

In today’s WatchPro Original interview, Mr Meerson speaks about his experience in New York, reveals he intends to move almost permanently to the United States to build his business here, and looks forward to a post-Covid-19 world in which he intends to open in partnership in several more US cities.
