Watchmaker turns to Kickstarter to launch US brand

Shlomo Mockin is the latest entrepreneurial watchmaker to take to crowdfunding to get his American watch brand off the ground.

The watchmaker from New York has just 17 days left to reach his US$40,000 (£26,400) target on Kickstarter. He has already won 66 backers who have pledged US$5,839 (£3,853).

Mockin is attempting to use the Kickstarter site to launch his brand Zayger, which is the Yiddish word for watch. He describes the watches as high-quality timepieces made in the US that are "conversation starters".

The Zayger watches are created using 3D printing technology and are fully compiled – movements included – by Mockin in the US.

To entice pledges, Mockin is offering up pre-orders of his LeatherTime watch collection. The line is a range of quartz watches with leather crowns, dials, bezels and dials made from a choice of alligator, crocodile, ostrich, python, lambskin, lizard, shark or synthetic leathers.
