Venomous sales of ATOWAK’s Tarantula watch see 100 bought inside three minutes of launch

Tarantula watches have a satellite wandering hour wheel spinning over a cobweb-style dial.

The first 100 Tarantula watches from their creator, ATOWAK, sold out in just three minutes, the company has revealed.

Customers were given a 20% discount for jumping on the limited edition watch, with production capped at 500 pieces, bring the $2,199 price down to $1,760.

That discount is still available for the second tranche of 100 watches, which can be pre-ordered now and will be delivered to customers in late August.

Hong Kong-based ATOWAK was founded in 2010, but made white label mechanical watches for microbrands rather than marketing any of its creations under its own name.

That changed in 2020 with the launch of its first ATOWAK branded collection, the Ettore series of wandering hour watches.

Tarantula, Windows and Cobra collections have followed, all driven by a desire to make watches with truly original designs and ways of displaying the time.

ATOWAK Tarantula watches have a satellite wandering hour wheel spinning like a spider over a cobweb-style dial.

Despite its sophistication and innovative design, ATOWAK has contained the mechanism in a slim and elegant hand-polished steel case.

There are three colourways, red, blue and green, each with matching coloured rubber straps.

“We are thrilled to introduce the ATOWAK Tarantula to the world,” said Johnny Deng, CEO of ATOWAK when the watch launched last month.

“This watch is a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, incorporating unique features that set it apart. We invite watch enthusiasts to personally experience Tarantula and discover the never-ending mystery it holds,” he adds.
