Venice-based Venezianico has taken inspiration from the city’s famous Horses of St. Mark bronze statutes to create a version of its Nereide dive watch in bronze.
The statues of horses were forged in ancient Greece and found a home at the Basilica of St. Mark in the 13th century and contributed to bronze being viewed as a precious material in the hands of Venetian artisans.
Among today’s Venetian artisans are the Alberto and Alessandro Morelli brothers, who launched Venezianico as a vehicle for their combined passions for horology and the centuries-old charm of the land where they grew up.
They have made the Nereide Bronze divers’ watch in a 42mm case, water resistant to 300 metres, with a dial that fades from dark grey in the centre to black at its perimeter.
It is powered by a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, protectec by a closed steel caseback decorated with a depiction of the St. Marks Horses.
It comes on a rubber strap with an optional handmade leather strap (costing €85) carrying decorations in Latin lifted from 13th century mosaics in the Basilica of St. Mark.
The bronze Nereide is available for pre-order now for €718.
