Cellini

Smash and grab gang hammer iconic New York jeweller

Cellini, retailer for some of the world’s hottest independent watchmakers, is hit in the middle of the night.

Police are appealing for help to track down a gang of three who smashed their way into Cellini on Park Avenue in New York on Saturday morning.

The brazen raid took place at 3.30am.

Nobody was hurt, but watches and jewelry valued at around $500,000 were stolen.

Cellini is an iconic jeweler, trading in some of the rarest timepieces from independent brands including De Bethune, Gronefeld, Laurent Ferrier and Urwerk.

Watches from these independent artisans are extremely rare, and would be difficult to shift in the way that watches from the likes of Rolex and Omega can be traded.

Jewelry at Celinni is equally scarce, although it could be broken down and sold for a fraction of its true value.

NYPD released a CCTV video of the break in as part of an appeal for help to track down the gang.
