Sherpa watch worn to Golden Globes by Christina Ricci’s stylist husband

Independent German brand gets Hollywood red carpet boost.

As we reported earlier this week, the red carpet at the Golden Globes was awash with Hollywood’s biggest stars wearing watches from the world’s biggest brands.

Omega, Bulgari, TAG Heuer and Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces were worn by the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy and Selena Gomez, who all played their brand ambassador roles at the awards.

But what the public appreciates above all else is authenticity, and a big star wearing your brand simply for the love of it tends to cut through.

That was the case for Sherpa, a small independent watchmaker from Germany, whose watch was chosen for the Golden Globes by artistic director Mark Hampton, husband of Christina Ricci.

The watch he chose was the Sherpa OPS, which contains components engraved with Tibetan Buddhist mantras that are supposed to bring karma.

“We microscopically laser engraved the Tibetan Buddhist mantra OM MANI PEME HUNG very commonly used in the Sherpa region on two of the movement’s wheels. Following widespread Himalaya Buddhist tradition used in prayer-wheels, the gears in the movement rotate constantly, sending out vibes of love, wisdom, and compassion from your wrist straight into the world — 30 million times per year. With the naked eye you will not notice the mantra is there. Instead, you will feel it,” explains Sherpa Watches founder Martin Klocke.
