Platinum Rolex Daytona headlines Bonhams next Knightsbridge auction

Modern watches in precious white metals — gold and platinum — are beginning to look like the next big thing for collectors, which makes an ice-blue-dialed Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, Ref: 116506, in platinum look like a great piece to headline with at the upcoming Bonhams Knightsbridge auction on September 13.

Modern watches in precious white metals — gold and platinum — are beginning to look like the next big thing for collectors, which makes an ice-blue-dialed Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, Ref: 116506, in platinum look like a great piece to headline with at the upcoming Bonhams Knightsbridge auction on September 13.

It lines up alongside 200 classics from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega, Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre and more contemporary styles from fashion houses Hermès, Chanel, and Cartier.

Rolex’s platinum Daytona (pictured top), which has diamond hour markers and is sold with original box and papers, goes to auction with an estimate of £70,000 to £100,000.

Other leading lots in the Bonhams Knightsbridge sale include a Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller featuring a black dial with luminous dot hour markers, baton quarters, white outer minute divisions and date aperture. Accompanied by its original box and punched guarantee certificate, it goes under the hammer with an estimate of £25,000 to £35,000.

It is believed that only 1,000 pieces were produced by Rolex, making its estimate of £10,000 to £15,000 tempting to collectors.

Omega is well-represented in the Bonhams auction including a 1967 Omega stainless steel military issue automatic wristwatch Seamaster 300 with an estimate £15,000 – 20,000.

The September auction features a special lot of 60 vintage Omega watches including Chronographs, Speedmasters, Flightmasters, Seamasters and military issue designs that have a breath of dates across the decades starting in 1915 up to 2006.
