Movado group summit

Movado Group quietly shelves its 2020 summit in Swiss Alps

Coronavirus takes down another global watch event as the American group pulls the plug on its Davos Summit.

With all the hullabaloo about Watches & Wonders Geneva cancelling its show in April, news that Movado Group has shelved plans to bring distributors and retail partners together in the Swiss Alpine town of Davos slipped under WatchPro‘s radar.

Chief executive Efraim Grinberg wrote to the group’s partners earlier this week, citing the health risk associated with the growing Coronavirus outbreak.

No official statement was made to the media.

The event in Davos had proved popular with Movado Group’s partners.

The company focuses on working with tight network of large jeweller groups, department store chains and online giants, so the global event was a manageable size and struck the right balance between business and pleasure, people attending the event in previous years have said.

A source with knowledge of the Davos cancellation said that it is a shame, but the safety of staff and customers has to take priority.
