La Chaux-de-Fonds watchmakers damaged by freak storm

Winds of up to 135 mph reported as tornado tears through Neuchâtel town.

A freak storm ripped through the famous watchmaking town of La Chaux-de-Fonds in the northwest of Switzerland on Monday, killing at least one person, according to local news reports, and damaging several buildings.

A video shared with WatchPro shows windows blown out and a roof damaged at the vast Sellita factory, prompting fears of disruption to supply for an industry already grappling shortages.

Sellita has been contacted for information.

Police from the canton of Neuchâtel said that, in addition to one fatality, 15 other people were injured.

Wind gusts of up to 135 mph have been reported.
