IWC to reveal revamped Pilot’s collection at SIHH

IWC Shaffhausen turns its attention to its famed Pilot’s Watch collection in 2016 with a series of new developments, including the largest watch the Swiss brand has ever made.

Just when you thought oversized watches were a thing of the past, IWC has released the Big Pilot’s Heritage in 48mm and 55mm case sizes, breaking a record held by the Big Pilot since 1940.

IWC’s complete and comprehensive overhaul of the Pilot’s Watch collection will also see new smaller pieces introduced at the entry-level.

Pilot’s watches were the original oversized watches through necessity of unrivalled legibility and featured vast tactile (often diamond and onion) crowns that could be operated without the need to remove flight gloves.

But that doesn’t mean that every Tom, Dick or Harry wants to wear a giant wristwatch every day and IWC’s move towards smaller pieces illustrates canny business sense. Even without seeing them, it’s a fair bet that IWC’s new 36mm Automatic Pilot’s will fly out of stores with customers both male and female, if you’ll excuse the pun.
