Hublot staged a football match that saw superstars Pelé and Maradona manage two five-a-side teams composed of former legends of the game.
Yesterday’s Match of Friendship, held at Le Palais Royal in Paris, took place on the eve of the Euro 2016 France tournament, for which Hublot produces the official watch.
No grudges were apparent on the day as Pelé and Maradona pitted Ferdinand, Hierro, Dida, Crespo and Bebeto against Trezeguet, Peruzzi, Ferrara, Materazzi and Seedorf.
Hublot invited a number of retailers – including Marcus Margulies and Rox managing director Kyron Keogh – and press to attend the event which also saw the launch of the official watch, the 100-piece Big Bang Unico Retrograde Chronographe Euro.
“We have all dreamt of an ideal team, of seeing some of our favourite players come together under the same colours.” said Ricardo Guadalope, chief executive of Hublot. “To see the two biggest rivals of all time team up in a legendary match, buzzing with the passion for football that drives us all, is a real privilege. This match is one of the “off the record” moments that I could have chosen as my favourite “EURO moment”. It is a match which says a lot about Hublot’s involvement and the ties it has woven over the past decade in the world of football, by teaming up with prestigious clubs, star trainers, magicians with the ball and the best leagues.”
Half time penalties saw Hublot donate 20,000 euros to UEFA’s UEFA Foundation for the children.
