Aside from a couple of brief stints in Atlanta and Geneva, Lawrence Bock is a born-and-bred Dallasite.
Though he has been involved with the family business since he was 13, his first official job at Bachendorf’s Jewelers, when he was 22, was organizing watches.
“It gave me the passion and appreciation for the Swiss timepieces we carried,” he says.
It is Lawrence’s enthusiasm for the products he sells that has propelled him to the head of the business, which he has now run for 12 years.
Under his leadership, Bachendorf’s Jewelers has grown to employ almost 100 employees across five locations.
A recent highlight was the opening of Bachendorf’s two-storey Rolex boutique in the upmarket Dallas mall Highland Park Village at the end of 2021.
Lawrence says his day-to-day job involves “a mix of everything from buying, selling, marketing, financial recording and human resources”. Having such a broad overview of the business allows him to recognise what is needed across the board for
Bachendorf’s to maintain its relevance. “We need more category disruption to stay in the consumer’s conversation, especially for the under 30s,” he muses.
“Today the world is in a difficult place. I hope Bachendorf’s will continue to maintain its consumer confidence in its brand and all the brands it carries. We are doing our best job to uphold the highest integrity in our business, despite how unstable the market may become.”
When he’s not thinking about watches, Lawrence loves to play tennis and work out. Or on less active days, you might find him curled up on the sofa with his wife Katy and their dogs, watching a documentary.
“But just like my father and my generation I mostly work,” he admits, “because I love it so much.”
