Many will barely recognize the pair, given their more usual rejection of the formality of the Swiss watch industry.

The Patek Philippe boutique opening is a sign that, despite their maverick reputations, Danny and Brian are hugely respectful of fine watchmaking.

Danny is the third-generation owner of Govberg Jewelers in Philadelphia, and Brian the fourth. The retailer is more than 100 years old and an authorized dealer for the biggest brands in the world.

The Patek Philippe boutique is more Brian’s thing, according to Danny. It is run by a new business called Nineteen Sixteen Company, named after the year Govberg Jewelers was founded.

It is one of only two standalone mono-brand boutiques in the United States run by partners. Gearys in Los Angeles has the other on Rodeo Drive.

That is a major coup for the Govbergs, and a sign that Patek Philippe is comfortable partnering with a family that in WatchBox, their other business, has created one of the world’s largest secondary market companies for collectible watches.

Patek Philippe USA president Lisa Jones says she expects the Miami boutique to become an important destination for watch lovers for generations to come.
