Gerald Charles has produced its first skeletonised Maestro watch for lefties.
The Maestro 8.0 GC Sport Squelette has its crown on the left of the watch. This, it is suggested, makes it more comfortable to wear on the left wrist, because the crown doesn’t dig into the back of your hand, and on the right wrist, so that left-handers find it easy to operate the crown.
The luxury sports watch is offered in titanium on a royal blue vulcanised rubber strap, and there is an 18ct rose gold version with the crown on the right that is worn on a grey rubber strap.
You can see the latest line up of Gerald Charles watches at WatchPro Salon, which takes place from November 10 to 11 at the 5-star Londoner hotel on Leicester Square.
Like all Gerald Charles watches, the latest Maestro watches, designed by the maison’s creative director Octavio Garcia and manufactured in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier in Swiss, take inspiration from drawings by Gérald Genta.
Making a leftie Maestro required the GCA 5482 automatic movement to be rotated by 180°; not a simple task in a watch with such a uniquely-shaped case because the skeletonisation makes the whole calibre’s architecture visible from above and below.
Gerald Charles says its connection to the world of professional tennis educated its choices for the Maestro GC Sport 8.0.
Lightweight titanium and a shock-resistant movement mean the watches can be worn during a match, while the left-sided crown prevents the watch rubbing against players’ hands.
The watch head weighs just 40 grams, less than half that of the 18ct rose gold version.
“This new GC Sport reference perfectly embodies the company’s vision to manufacture watches that continue the legacy of our founder, Mr. Gérald Charles Genta, while adding our contemporary vision of watchmaking. We craft hand-made and high-technical timepieces, while preserving the most sophisticated elegance,” says Federico Ziviani, CEO of Gerald Charles.
The watchmaker has used a new sandblasting finish for the titanium case that make it a darker grey than the watch’s rhodium-plated bridges.
