Casio has brought the luxurious finishes of its MR-G line to the iconic design of its original DW-5000C line, which launched the G-SHOCK family in 1983.
The format has already been moving upmarket in recent years with collections like the Full Metal range retailing for $600, six times more than plastic watches in the same DW shape.
New MRG-B5000 use cutting-edge metals finishes polished by master craftsmen at Premium Production Line at Yamagata Casio.
The watch has a bezel made from Cobarion, which is used in the jewelry business because it is around four times harder than pure titanium and a brilliant gleam comparable to platinum.
There are two models in the first MRG-B5000 range, MRG-B5000B-1 in black DLC and MRG-B5000D-1 with a silver finish.
Prices are expected to be $4,000 and $3,500. There is no word yet on UK availability or price.
Straps are made from DAT55G, a titanium alloy that is both about three times harder than pure titanium and highly workable, making it scratch-resistant and ensuring a long-lasting, beautiful mirror finish.
All that luxury does not come at the expense of G-SHOCK’s legendary ruggedness, which is delivered from its shock-resistant Multi-Guard Structure.
“Masterfully crafted polishing and meticulously selected materials come together to create a timepiece worthy of that original design, but with the trademark quality of the MR-G line, which stands at the pinnacle of the diverse family of G-SHOCK watches,” Casio says.
