1967 was an important milestone on Grand Seiko’s journey to create the perfect timepiece.
It was the year the watchmaker codified what it describes as the Grand Seiko Style, a set of nine principles that inspire the aesthetic of every piece, and was first encapsulated in the launch of the 44GS.
That year and the 1967 44GS are being celebrated over half a century later in the form of the Grand Seiko 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Grand Seiko has given the watch a deep blue dial, which is said to represent the sky on a full moon night above the watchmaker’s studio in Shinshu.
Its sunray pattern catches the light and recreates the soft sparkle that the moon casts over the landscape, the company says.
The three-hander Spring Drive watch has white gold hour markers and hands, although the seconds hand and GS logo are in gold.
It comes in a slim steel case housing a hand wound Spring Drive Caliber 9R31 with 72 hour power reserve.
1,500 are being made. They go on sale in August priced at £6,900.
