Fashion entrepreneur launches boutique watch brand

New watch brand Breva held a press conference at BaselWorld yesterday to officially launch its first watch, which incorporates some brand new horology technology.

Breva is founded by French fashion entrepreneur Vincent Dupontreué three years ago after he failed to find a watch on the market he wanted to buy for his birthday and made the decision to set out and create his own.

He teamed up with Jean-François Mojon of Chronode and the duo have spend the past three years in the research and development phase, but at BaselWorld this week they have debuted their first creation, the Génie 01.

The watch is a world first according to the house as it is the only watch on the market fitted with a barometer and an altimeter to help it forecast the weather.

Dupontreué said that the Génie 01 is aimed at serious watch collectors and added that he has already received some pre-orders on the timepieces.

The Génie 01, which is available in white gold for CHF145,00 (£100,295) or rose gold for CHF140,00 (£96,830). The watches have been limited to 55 pieces each.

Dupontreué said that Breva will continue to go down the route of creating market firsts.

He said: "We will always launch something that is not on the market. We are not interesting in doing something that everyone else does, we are not interested in tourbillons."
