eBay expands authentication service to cover watches priced at under $2,000

For $80, any watch priced between $1,000 and $2,000 can go through the multi-check authentication process.

eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee was launched two years ago in the United States, and last year in the UK.

The service means that every watch priced at over $2,000/£2,000 goes to a specialist in authentication to be checked on the way from the seller to the buyer.

If the buyer returns the watch, it is checked again on the way back to the seller to make sure it is the same item in identical condition.

Now the service is being extended, first in the United States, with eBay offering to authenticate any watch priced between $1,000 and $2,000.

The only difference to the original Authenticity Guarantee service is that the customer has to pay $80 for the expert verification.

“If a buyer opts for this service, their watch will go to eBay’s authentication partner where it will go through eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee process. This means that the watch is vetted by industry experts who will conduct a rigorous multi-point inspection to verify that the watch is authentic and that the watch, accessories and packaging are all as described,” eBay describes.
