With its latest horological creation, Swiss watchmaker Certina underscores its enduring dedication to the mysterious depths of the ocean.

The DS SUPER PH1000M, originally introduced to the world in 1970, made an indelible impression both on land and beneath the waves. Today, this iconic timepiece transforms into two distinct variations: a limited edition of 1,000 pieces bedecked with a strikingly vivid orange dial and an unlimited edition exuding a sleek black aesthetic.

These extraordinary wristwatches are animated by a cutting-edge automatic caliber, boasting an impressive 80-hour power reserve and the innovative, anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring.

The undeniable vintage allure of the DS SUPER PH1000M draws its inspiration from its 1970s’ predecessor. In its heyday, this timepiece set the definitive standard for waterproof watches. The historical antecedent of the contemporary iteration garnered remarkable acclaim during the Tektite II program, where five intrepid aquanauts dwelled and conducted extensive research for up to four weeks in an underwater habitat.

This dynamic duo faithfully upholds this legacy, preserving not only the exceptional water resistance but also paying homage to the classic design of yesteryears. The inimitable fluted and unidirectional bezel, adorned with a lustrous black aluminum ring, captures the same attention today as it did in bygone eras.

The stainless-steel case adopts a barrel-shaped contour, measuring 43.5 x 42mm. Positioned at 9 o’clock is a helium release valve, a vital feature for professional divers. The fluted and raised design of the rotating bezel not only augments functionality but also endows the watch with a compelling visual depth.

Prominent indices and hands, coated with Super-LumiNova, ensure impeccable legibility even in dimly lit environments. Discerning enthusiasts have the choice between a black rubber strap or a textile strap crafted from #tide ocean material, which ingeniously recycles and repurposes ocean-bound plastic bottles.

As a maritime timepiece consumed by an unquenchable thirst for profound depths, the DS SUPER PH1000M flaunts an exceptional water resistance of 100 bar (1,000 meters). With its automatic winding mechanism and rugged construction, this watch remains perpetually ready for any adventure, whether on solid ground or beneath the ocean’s waves.

The new DS SUPER PH1000M effortlessly plays the dual role of a steadfast companion and a striking fashion statement. It arrives packaged in an exclusive premium presentation and will be available through official Certina retailers across the globe from November 2023. The orange dial version is priced at CHF 970, while the black dial edition can be yours for CHF 910.
