British watchmaker Elliot Brown recognised for supporting armed forces community

Elliot Brown has earned an Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award for its support to the Armed Forces community.

The company is the first watch brand to have received this award in the nine years the scheme has been running, which recognises businesses that employ and support service men and women, veterans and their families.

Half of Elliot Brown’s workforce in Poole, Dorset, are military veterans or spouses.

Co-founders Ian Elliot and Alex Brown have also raised in excess of £630,000 for armed forces associations and charities.

“We didn’t set out to become a major supporter of the military community, it has been an entirely natural process having seen first-hand the effects of military life on individuals, families and communities. Giving back, supporting where we can and being flexible feels the right way to run the business. To be recognised at this level strengthens our bonds with the community and if anything makes our resolve even greater. We are committed to supporting our employees and the wider local Armed Forces community as part of our mentoring and fundraising programmes. We couldn’t be any prouder,” Mr Elliot says.

Elliot Brown’s head of marketing, Gem Parker, is a military veteran and wife of a serving member of the armed forces.

She says working for a business that understands the uniqueness of the military community is rare. “We are a special breed of people who regularly encounter changes in circumstances outside of work. Ian and Alex understand and provide support and flexible working conditions.  I also love how their fundraising isn’t shouted about, it’s done because it’s the right thing to do, not because it could bring in good PR. When I was medically discharged from the Army, I never imagined a business could care quite as much as Elliot Brown and I’m super proud to be part of the team that gives back to our community,” she adds.
