Blancier has created a collection of watches that upcycles used Nespresso coffee capsules and turns them into decorative dials.
The brand has created a patented system for the making of the Grand Cru collection, and says the resulting dials consistently draw the wearer’s attention to sustainability.
Blancier’s owner Willem Kamerman came up with the idea of developing the watch while he was waiting to get a coffee at a Nespresso boutique.
He said of the watches: "We don’t reuse the cups; we turn the waste into something more attractive and valuable. We move up the chain.
"Every time you look at the watch you’re made aware that you don’t have to throw everything away."
Behind the squashed anodised aluminium dials are mechanical and hand-wound movements, though Blancier is focusing on the exclusivity of each watch, as every squashed capsule will appear slightly different.
