Staff at the 125-year-old family-owned business, which has 10 stores across the UK in Leeds, York, Windsor, Hull, Nottingham and Newcastle, will take on fundraising initiatives throughout the year, with the aim of raising £15,000.

Berry’s Jewellers has selected Parkinson’s UK as its charity of the year.

Staff at the 125-year-old family-owned business, which has 10 stores across the UK in Leeds, York, Windsor, Hull, Nottingham and Newcastle, will take on fundraising initiatives throughout the year, with the aim of raising £15,000.

Customers can also support the company’s fundraising efforts through their JustGiving page.

The business chose to support Parkinson’s UK because staff have friends and family members living with the condition.

“This partnership will be a great way to not only have some fun, but also to raise awareness and money for Parkinson’s UK’s vital work,” says Simon Oxby, head of operations at Berry’s.

“All money raised will help drive forward the search for new treatments, therapies and hopefully a cure. For the last two years we have chosen a charity each year to support and after discussing the applicants for 2022, and the fact that several of our colleagues have been touched by Parkinson’s, we felt it was the right choice.”

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, and currently there is no cure. There are around 145,000 people already living with the condition in the UK, with two more people diagnosed every hour.

Parkinson’s UK is the largest charitable funder of Parkinson’s research in Europe, leading the way to better treatments and a cure.

Ghalib Ullah, head of commercial partnerships at Parkinson’s UK, says: “We are hugely grateful to Berry’s Jewellers for selecting Parkinson’s UK as their charity of the year for 2022. With more than 40 potential symptoms, Parkinson’s can devastate lives. We’ve made huge breakthroughs in the last 50 years, but there is still no cure and current treatments are not good enough, with many people experiencing distressing side effects from their medication.

“This incredible support from Berry’s Jewellers helps us fund the research we need to drive breakthroughs, as well as vital services across the UK to help people with Parkinson’s to live well.”
