Rivington is a picturesque and historic village nestling in the moors just north of Bolton that is not only the home of British revival watch brand Duckworth Prestex but also an extremely significant place for watchmaking as a whole.
Bolton is where John Harwood, inventor of the world’s first automatic watch movement, was born at the beginning of the last century, and it is also the birthplace of internationally renowned British watchmaker Roger Smith.
So, in its own way, Bolton is just as significant location in the world of watchmaking as La Chaux-de-Fonds or Geneva.
Rivington is also the name of the latest watch from Duckworth Prestex, which breaks new ground as it’s the very first GMT watch for Neil Duckworth’s company.
The Rivington GMT line is available for pre-order now and will be presented to the public, press and retailers at this year’s WatchPro Salon, which takes place from November 10 to 11 at The Londoner Hotel on Leicester Square.
Duckworth Prestex has made a big impact on the watchmaking world in a relatively short space of time, thanks to a series of eye-catching designs that offer quality, tradition, and value.
Following hot on the heels of Duckworth Prestex’s Belmont dive watch – also named after a village close to Bolton – the Rivington maintains the design language that traces its roots back to the original Prestex pocket watches of the 1920s, which were made and sold by Prestons of Bolton.
However, this is a very modern watch, with all the functionality needed for the modern day globetrotter, powered by the very latest Miyota 9075 GMT movement: a benchmark in watchmaking technology and reliability.
The result is an eye-catching 42mm timepiece that combines utility with tradition, containing all the virtues of a contemporary GMT watch with a classic cushion case style that is unmistakably Duckworth Prestex.
The Rivington was created to fulfil a specific need: giving active people one watch to fulfil all their needs, wherever they are and whatever they are doing.
At the same time, the company’s founder and CEO Neil Duckworth wanted to ensure that the Rivington remained true to the very essence of Duckworth Prestex, maintaining the links with the company’s past and showcasing a distinct range of signature colours.
In total, there are four options: black, green, orange, and blue; all with black ceramic bezels.
Eighty examples of each colour will be produced initially, making 320 pieces in total.
Marking this watch out is a distinctive waffle pattern: a contemporary and subtle motif that gives the Rivington a unique dimension, along with the graduated shading of the dial.
There’s a deep stamped case back with the Duckworth Prestex logo, complete with an individual serial number, and the watch comes either on a stainless steel bracelet, as well as a rubber strap as an option.
Padded and stitched leather straps are also available in black, green, blue and brown.
