Scottish auctioneers puts ‘dirty dozen’ of World War II watchmakers’ pieces up for sale

McTears Auctioneers in Glasgow is hosting a sale dedicated entirely to watches with a military history next month.

The firm hopes that the online auction will draw a world-wide audience of collectors thanks to the specialisation, rarity and vast number of items being offered.

Twelve watch manufacturers were selected during Second World to make watches specifically for military use and McTears has secured pieces from all twelve of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ manufacturers.

“Included in our sale, we have an example of the rarest and by far the most sought after military watch to be made – Grana. With only around 1,000 – 5,000 of these items commissioned from of the MOD, these are the most collectable military watches as they rarely come up for sale and they are usually the missing piece from a collectors ‘Dirty Dozen’,” a McTears spokesperson says.

“Our auction is currently open for entries and we would encourage anyone with a watch that has a broad arrow either on the dial or caseback of the watch to get in touch with us for more information,” the company adds.

This sale will take place on the 19th of September at 11.30am at McTears Auctioneers in Glasgow.
