Born in Iran and raised in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Ali Sotlani originally trained as an attorney, but the life of luxury was forever calling his name.
His family business, David Orgell, was the oldest luxury retailer on Rodeo Drive, having opened its doors in 1958, and he returned to the fold to run it.
It was from this experience that Ali decided to create his own watch brand, Ritmo Mundo, which he had manufactured in Milan.
Staying true to his Hollywood roots, Ali has built links with film stars including Samuel L. Jackson, who often wears his timepieces while filming.
This year is a big one for Ritmo Mundo as it is the brand’s 20th anniversary.
“Celebrating our 20th year has been a great time to reflect,” says Ali, who has used the milestone to launch special commemorative collections of watches.
Ali tells us that the secret to running a successful business for 20 years is hard work and grit.
“Make sure you are working 24/7, and have a plan to grow sales while concurrently creating a brand DNA,” he advises. Creating a definitive look and style has been key to Ritmo Mundo’s longevity.
“So many brands have become stale since their timepieces have become so similar to other brands in the marketplace,” says Ali.
“I’ve made every effort to ensure you know a Ritmo Mundo timepiece from its distinctive colorful and sporty look.”
A true Californian, when Ali does squeeze in some off time, he can either be found spending quality time with his five children or hiking the state’s great trails and exploring its famous coastlines, accompanied by his dog Bailey.
