When Oris became the official timekeeper at Lord’s, the home of cricket, it promised to give a watch to every international player whose name is added to the ground’s famous honours boards, which list every international bowler who has taken five wickets in an innings, and every batter scoring a century.
The honours boards are hung in both the home and away dressing rooms, and cover England and visiting players.
Towards the back end the partnership’s second summer, the watchmaker has revealed which watches have been chosen by the cricketers.
Many visited Oris’s London boutique to collect their timepieces, while others were presented with them at the ground.
Stuart Broad
Stuart Broad gave us a fairy-tale ending to his cricketing career in the final test of this year’s Ashes series with a six after his final ball as a batsman and a wicket off his last delivery as a bowler.
That was at The Oval.
England lost to Australia at Lord’s last month, but Broad added to his name to honours board at Lord’s for a five wicket haul against Ireland earlier in the summer.
That took his total to five appearances on the honours boards.
To celebrate, England’s second highest test match wicket taker of all time chose an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in bronze.
The watch currently retails for £2,300.
Steve Smith
Australia’s former captain and star batsman earned his place on the honours board for an innings of 110 that helped his team to victory in the Lord’s test this year.
He was presented with an Oris Small Seconds Date, which retails for £2,300.
Josh Tongue
England under Ben Stokes are not a team that does regret, but if there is one selection decision that might have prevented Australia retaining the Ashes in a 2-2 drawn series this year, it would have been retaining Josh Tongue in the side after he took five wickets against Ireland in this summer’s opening test match at Lord’s, and followed that up with a further five wickets across two innings in a losing cause against Australia.
He is on the honours board for his five-for against Ireland, which snagged him a £1,900 Oris Diver’s Sixty-Five.
Ollie Pope
Lord’s was not a happy hunting ground for England number 3 Ollie Pope this summer as he was forced off with a dislocated shoulder that ruled him out for the rest of the Ashes.
He can console himself after securing a place on the honours board and a new Aquis Date from Oris for the fastest ever double hundred (from 207 balls) at Lord’s during the one-off test against Ireland ahead of the Ashes.
The green-dialled Aquis Date is currently retailing for £1,700.
Ben Duckett
The one-sided test match against Ireland saw England rack up four entries on the honours board.
England opener Ben Duckett bagged a century, and booked his trip to Oris’s South Molton Street boutique to collect an Aquis Date Relief.
One of the smallest England players at 5 ft 8 in, he picked an oversized wrist ornament in the form of the 43.5mm steel on steel dive watch, which retails for £1,900.
Ben Stokes
Eagle-eyed cricket fans will notice that we do not have news of an Oris watch for England captain Ben Stokes, who scored a spectacular 155 that nearly saved the crucial second test against Australia at Lord’s in an awesome show of power hitting with the tail.
What would be an appropriate timepiece to remember the brutal display of batting?
