BASEL PREVIEW: Alfex Translucent 8x

Swiss brand Alfex is set to launch a watch with a twist at BaselWorld – its Translucent 8x, an off-centre timepiece that unites watchmaking and jewellery design.

The Lugano-based company says the secret of its success lies in the clever union of classical Swiss art and the latest production technologies. Indeed, the Translucent 8x certainly fits this criteria.

It has described the Translucent 8x as "a watch, an accessory, a piece of jewellery". It has a textured acrylic bangle in place of a typical bracelet or leather strap.

The bangle is etched with a repeated octagonal motif that forms a mesh pattern in the shape of the number eight – a motif possibly tailored for the Chinese market, where eight is a lucky number – while its off-centred dial has been designed to break from convention.

The brand said: "This model showcases the technical and aesthetic talents of Alfex by achieving a perfect balance between materials: supple and transparent acrylic on the one hand, and sturdy steel on the other, all in harmonious shades of grey."
