Alpina achieves dive-ready water resistance in a smartwatch

Combining the connectivity of a smartwatch with the water resistance of a diver’s watch is the trick that Alpina has set out to crack with its Seastrong Horological Smartwatch.

The 44mm watch officially qualifies as a diver’s watch, with its case certified as water-resistant to 100 metres, and has all the rugged good looks of its mechanical peers.

It is also smart, delivering activity tracking and sleep monitoring, alongside traditional functions such as a 24-hour world timer that uses automatic time zone adjustment via a connected smartphone.

If the watch is lost, the data can be easily recovered, since the measurements are automatically stored in an independent cloud for 30 days without any need for synchronisation with a smartphone.

The watch houses a MMT-282-1 Horological Smartwatch calibre, powered by a battery providing more than four years of power.

The calibre communicates to the MMT-356 app, which is available on both iOS and Android. The dial comes in either black or blue with luminescent hands and hour-markers.

Black, green or blue rubber straps are offered.
