X marks the spot for Schofield Treasure

To mark its tenth anniversary, British watchmaker has created two new Treasure watches with stepped black dials and brushed gold hands.

It is ten years, this November, since Giles Ellis fulfilled his dream of launching his own watch brand and first timepiece in the form of the Schofield Signalman.

To mark the anniversary, Schofield is bringing back the polished steel case and black dial of the Signalman and incorporated it into two new Treasure watches with stepped black dials and brushed gold hands.

There is one model in a polished steel case, plus a second in gold-plated brass.

Schofield uses its case backs as mini artworks, and in the case of the Treasure it’s engraved a bold X, for X marks the spot to dig for treasure, on a background of runic script, mountains, rivers and the sky.

The gold X is formed by bonding a gold-plated brass disc behind a wire-eroded aperture in the multi-stepped stainless steel part. Every watch of a numbered 29 piece series also has an inscription on the back of a famous Treasure find. Number 1 is Sutton Hoo, number 2 is Ringlemere Cup, and so on.

Despite the closed case back, Schofield has given the 44mm Treasure a fully gold-plated Automatic ETA 2824, held in place with a gold anodised aluminium ring. “Like the best treasure, it’s hidden. But you know it is there,” the company suggests.

The Treasure Watch comes in a finely crafted and sustainable ash box with an X marks the spot engraved into the lid.

Price of the Schofield Treasure is £3480 including VAT (UK / free shipping) or £2900 (US, Canada, Europe ROW + shipping).
