Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo accumulated 88 watches for its Royal Oak 50th Sale, held to mark the golden jubilee of Gerald Genta’s famous design for Audemars Piguet in 1972.<\/strong><\/p>\n The auction, described by Phillips watch experts as “the rarest assembly of historically important, and in some instances unique, Royal Oak models gathered in one place”, generated total sales of $22,616,032.<\/p>\n Among the 88 watches to sell were two vintage Royal Oaks that hammered for more than $1 million.<\/p>\n A Royal Oak reference 5402ST A2 \u2014 said to be the second Royal Oak ever made and one of only four shown to the press at Baselworld in 1972 \u2014 sold for $1,073,319.<\/p>\n Close on its heels with a second million dollar hammer price was a Royal Oak perpetual calendar in platinum, reference 25654PT with copper brown dial, and double-signed by Asprey, which went for $1,036,511.<\/p>\nTop 10 Royal Oaks<\/h2>\n
