{"id":42226,"date":"2018-06-25T12:23:37","date_gmt":"2018-06-25T11:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/?p=42226"},"modified":"2018-06-25T15:59:59","modified_gmt":"2018-06-25T14:59:59","slug":"bidders-keener-ever-bonhams-take-nearly-2m-london-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/bidders-keener-ever-bonhams-take-nearly-2m-london-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cBidders are keener than ever\u201d as Bonhams takes nearly \u00a32m at London auction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The latest Bonhams Fine Watches and Wristwatches held in London last week fetched almost \u00a32m, marking one of the \u2018largest sales to date\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event, which took place on June 20, saw 80% of lots sold on the day achieving a total of \u00a31,840,438.<\/p>\n<p>The top lot of the sale was the Rolex Paul Newman Cosmograph Daytona which exceeded its pre-sale estimate of \u00a3150,000-180,000, selling for \u00a3212,500.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Darracott is the Global Head of Watches, he said: \u201cWe were very pleased with the results, which reflect the continued buoyancy of the collectors\u2019 market. Many of our top lots achieved well above their pre-sale estimate, indicating that bidders are keener than ever to secure the best examples of rare and interesting models at auction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rolex was incredibly popular throughout the auction with six of the top ten lots coming from the Swiss brand.<\/p>\n<p>An 18k gold manual wind Cosmograph doubled its pre-sale estimate when it achieved \u00a3100,000.<\/p>\n<p>The auction also featured 46 Heuers from a single private collection which included some of the finest examples of Heuer watches ever to be sold at auction.<\/p>\n<p>World record auction prices were achieved for the &#8216;Skipperera&#8217; chronograph which went for \u00a381,250, more than triple its estimate.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Darracott went on to add: \u201cThis was one of our largest sales to date, and we are delighted that so many of the lots found new owners.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Bonhams Fine Watches and Wristwatches held in London last week fetched almost \u00a32m, marking one of the \u2018largest sales to date\u2019.
