{"id":40723,"date":"2018-03-16T14:00:54","date_gmt":"2018-03-16T14:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/?p=40723"},"modified":"2018-03-16T14:00:54","modified_gmt":"2018-03-16T14:00:54","slug":"android-wear-rebranded-wear-os-google","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/android-wear-rebranded-wear-os-google\/","title":{"rendered":"Android Wear rebranded as &#8216;Wear OS by Google&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Google has announced that its popular Android Wear operating system is to be rebranded as \u2018Wear OS by Google\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Launched three years ago, Android Wear has been integrated into a number of high profile connected watches from various manufacturers, and was Google\u2019s attempt to grab a slice of the fledgling smartwatch pie.<\/p>\n<p>Other than for cosmetic branding and marketing purposes, one of the key reasons behind the change in name is the fact that in 2017 Google claims that a third of new Android Wear watch owners also used an iPhone, thus making the \u2018Android\u2019 part of the name somewhat misleading.<\/p>\n<p>The company also cited the upcoming Baselworld exhibition as the reason behind the timing of the rebranding: \u201cAndroid Wear was founded on the belief that wearable technology should be for everyone, no matter what style you wear on your wrist or what phone you have in your pocket,\u201d Google said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the watch industry gears up for another Baselworld\u00a0next week, we\u2019re announcing a new name that better reflects our technology, vision, and most important of all\u2014the people who wear our watches.
