{"id":35672,"date":"2017-06-02T12:09:48","date_gmt":"2017-06-02T11:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/?p=35672"},"modified":"2017-06-02T12:09:48","modified_gmt":"2017-06-02T11:09:48","slug":"rolex-daytona-cosmograph-owned-paul-newman-set-sell-1-million-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/rolex-daytona-cosmograph-owned-paul-newman-set-sell-1-million-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"Rolex Daytona Cosmograph owned by Paul Newman set to sell for $1 million at auction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Rolex Daytona Cosmograph, owned by Hollywood legend Paul Newman, and inscribed with a message from his wife, will be sold at auction this October.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The watch was reportedly purchased for $300 as a gift for Mr Newman by his wife, Joanne Woodward, in the late 1960s, according to a report in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/how-paul-newmans-legendary-rolex-cosmograph-daytona-was-foundand-where-its-going-now-1496322396\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street Journal Magazine<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>It is engraved on the back with the message &#8220;Drive Carefully Me&#8221;, a reminder to take care during the motor racing that became a huge part of Mr Newman&#8217;s life at the time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35673\" src=\"https:\/\/www.watchpro.com\/2017\/06\/paul-newman-rolex-daytona-back.jpg\" alt=\"paul-newman-rolex daytona back\" width=\"869\" height=\"1061\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>It is expected to sell for over $1 million when it goes under the hammer at a Phillips auction in New York on October 26.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The hammer price could be even higher since\u00a0the sale will raise money for\u00a0the Nell Newman Foundation, a nonprofit organisation founded in 2010 by Nell Newman, Mr Newman&#8217;s daughter,\u00a0after his death from lung cancer in 2008.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Rolex Daytona Cosmograph, owned by Hollywood legend Paul Newman, and inscribed with a message from his wife, will be sold at auction this October.
