WOTY2013: TAG Heuer Carrera MikroPendulumS

In November WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2013, made up of 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Highly commended for the WatchPro Innovative Watch of the Year 2013 was the TAG Heuer Carrera MikroPendulumS.

At BaselWorld 2013 TAG Heuer wowed the watch crowds with an exclusive patented technology – the first magnetic double tourbillon.

The TAG Heuer Carrera MikroPendulumS is a TAG Heuer Carrera MikrotourbillonS with two magnetic pendulums replacing the hairsprings – one for telling time and one for timekeeping.

Composed of 454 working components and based on unique TAG Heuer-patented technology, its watch chain turns at 12Hz and its chronograph chain turns at 50Hz.

The chronograph tourbillon controls the 1/100th of a second, beats 360,000 times an hour and rotates 12 times a minute.

All this is housed in a case forged from a chrome and cobalt alloy used in aviation and surgery that is fully biocompatible, harder than titanium, easier to shape and as luminous as white gold.

The case design, with its stopwatch-like placement of the crown at 12 o’clock, is based on the TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrogirder, and the Carrera 50 Year Anniversary Jack Heuer edition.

As TAG Heuer continues to innovate, this watch is definitely one its most groundbreaking releases of 2013.
