In November WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2013, made up of 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.
Highly commended for the WatchPro Innovative Watch of the Year 2013 was the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
This was the year that Samsung raced ahead of Apple with its smartwatch debut, earning it a spot in our top 10 for innovation.
As well as telling the time, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch is a voice activated touch screen device that answers calls.
Although the watch comes with the current limitation of only having interconnectivity with other Samsung devices, kudos has to go to Samsung for pipping its competitors to the post with this new generation of watch.
Among its functions, the watch allows users to avoid having to search for their smartphone, notifying the wearer from its wrist position of incoming calls, texts, emails and alerts and delivering a preview of messages.
There’s no doubt that more functionality will come from future models, so watch this space.
