WOTY2013: Panerai Luminor Marina 8 Days Oro Rosso

Earlier this year WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2013, made up of 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Highly commended for the WatchPro Luxury Watch of the Year 2013 was the Panerai Luminor Marina 8 Days Oro Rosso.

Earlier this year Officine Panerai presented a new in-house, hand-wound, mechanical eight-day power reserve movement called the P.5000.

This harks back to Panerai’s history whereby the eight-day power reserve, as supplied by Panerai, was vital to the frogmen commandos of the Italian Navy who, during their missions, required a highly reliable watch.

The P.5000 calibre made its debut in the new Luminor Marina 8 Days and Luminor Marina 8 Days Oro Rosso models.

Both respect the classic aesthetics of the Luminor Marina and its minimalist case and dial. The 44mm-diameter case is recognisable by the bridge device with locking lever to protect the winding crown.

The Luminor Marina 8 Days Oro Rosso has a particularly luxe look to it thanks to the warm hues of the 18ct polished rose gold partnered with the brown alligator strap. More than sufficently refined for our highly commended.
