WOTY 2014: Vulcain Nautical 70s Vulcain Trophy

Vulcain Nautical 70s Vulcain Trophy

This striking green watch is the third and most recent in a series of reissues from Vulcain’s 1970’s back catalogue, the others having appeared in orange and then blue in 2013.

The dial bears a series of decompression tables, adjustable via a screwdown crown at the four o’clock position while a triple piece caseback creates a ‘resonance chamber’ that allows the Nautical 70s’ Cricket alarm function to be heard underwater.

But the Nautical 70s is not just functional, it’s also a bit of a looker too. Its 1970s origins are immediately obvious due to its sunray-brushed cushion case, elongated by its integrated lugs, crosshatch-topped crowns and domed hesalight glass.

It is curious though that Vulcain chose to pair this dive-oriented watch with a rally watch strap edged in a complementary green.
