WOTY 2014: Struthers for Morgan

Highly Commended. Luxury Watches of the Year 2014.

Antiquarian horologists Craig and Rebecca Struthers first tasted watchmaking success with the award-winning one-off platinum pendent watch, Stella, before catching the attention of Morgan Motor Company.

The resulting 38mm Struthers for Morgan watch reflects the watches of the era when Morgan first put cars on the road in 1910 with 55 handmade pieces, 50 in silver and five in 18ct gold.

Each piece is made-to-order, taking three months to finish and offering the customer 2,000 personalisation options. Skeletonised cathedral hands indicate the time without blocking the Struthers for Morgan’s delicious cream dial, marked out in black and blue.

The watch uses a ‘recomissioned’ and modified manual-wind Omega 26 series ebauche from the 1950/60s. Cuff straps come courtesy of Shewsbury-based leatherworker Christopher Clarke while Cotswold furniture designer Howard Butler crafts a hand-made presentation box from the same ash and walnut used to build the Morgan’s chassis.
