Work begins to build Baselworld

As Baselworld draws nearer the staggering logistical operation of preparing the Swiss show begins to swing into action.

Over the coming five weeks 7,000 lorry loads of equipment will be delivered to the MCH Congress Centre Basel so that 20,000 steel workers, electricians, plumbers, structural engineers, architects, painters, carpenters, carpet fitters, decorators, lighting engineers, IT specialists can begin the arduous process of building the vast exhibitor stands in five halls before any of the show’s precious stock or the tens of thousands of visitors arrive.

Some multi-storey stands are so large they feature visitor areas, lifts, toilet facilities, kitchens and offices.

The process becomes one of Switzerland’s largest construction projects in the run up to the eight day watch and jewellery show that begins on March 27th.

A strict delivery schedule must be adhered to in order to ferry tens of thousands of tonnes of steel, wood, plastic, glass and cables into the centre of Basel. Waiting areas are established on the outskirts of the city and lorries are called in by radio.

Baselworld runs for eight days of March 27 to April 3 in Basel, Switzerland.
