London-based watchmaker William Wood produced its first collection in 2017 after raising £28,000 through Kickstarter thanks in part to the company’s mission to honour this country’s firefighters through timepieces that upcycle materials used by our brigades.
Four years on and the business is launching its fourth range, the Triumph Collection of Swiss-made chronographs, which have dials designed to look like gauges from a fire engine dashboard.
The flip side of the watches have a playful clear case back exposing a Sellita SW510 automatic chronograph movement with an oscillating weight in red with the William Wood logo.
This is surrounded by a red circle with the famous fire alarm message: In case of fire break glass.
The retro dial has hours, minutes, central chronograph and sub dial hands in red, blue or gold anodised metallics that match the bezel colours of three models.
They are worn on straps made from upcycled British fire hose straps in London Fire Brigade Red, West Midlands Fire Service Yellow, Tyne & Wear Fire Service Blue and British Armed Forces Fire Unit Green.
Every watch crown is forged from an original 1920’s British brass firefighter’s helmet.
They come in an Italian leather watch presentation box that is made to look like a red fire alarm and go on sale in March for £2,150.
