Weiss claims US manufacturing milestone

American watch brand Weiss Watch Company has claimed a milestone in American watch production with the launch of its latest model.

The new edition of its Standard Issue Field watch sees the brand designing, engineering and manufacturing its own cases and dials as well as hand finishing each movement, something it says no other watch company in the United States has so far achieved.

Cameron Weiss, Weiss Watch Company founder and head watchmaker, said: “Weiss is the only company actively restoring domestic manufacturing to American watchmaking."
The company was founded last year to ‘rediscover the art form and historical legacy of the mechanical manufacturing process, to once again restore prestige to American watchmaking’.

Work is currently underway within the company to manufacture its own American-made movement with a goal of incorporating as many American-made components into the watches as possible.

The new Standard Issue Field Watch retails in the US for $950 and features a revised case and crown design in stainless steel, and a mechanical movement with over 100 components. All case parts, dials, hands, spring bar tools, Cordura canvas and leather straps and white pine packaging are designed, engineered and manufactured in Los Angeles. The mechanical movement, buckles, case-back screws and spring bar screws are made in Switzerland, with hand finishing and assembly completed at Weiss’ Los Angeles studio.

Weiss, who trained at the Nicolas G. Hayek Watchmaking School as a WOSTEP Certified Watchmaker before undergoing extensive training at Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin, added: "We pride ourselves on building finely crafted timepieces using the highest quality materials, and are one of very few watchmakers that retain complete resources to perform all necessary maintenance service and care for every timepiece produced”.

The Standard Issue Field watch is available through the company’s website and will be launching through selected retail partners this summer.
