Watches top 2014 auction house search engine list

Luxury and antique watches are the most popular items searched for by users of auction house search engine Barneby’s.

The Swedish aggregator website that links auction catalogues from 268 auction houses worldwide, including Sotheby’s, Antiquorum, Fellows and Christies, released details of its top ten search terms from the first half of 2014 and found watches to be the most popular with customers.

From the 34,000 searches conducted on Barnebys.com between January and June this year, 13,000 were made by customers seeking watches at auction followed by 11,800 users seeking fine jewels. The third most popular search, conducted 3,200 times, was from users seeking antique chairs.

Search data shows that Rolex was by far the most popular watch brand searched for, accounting for 51 percent of watch searches, followed by pocket watches (11 percent) and Omega (4 percent).
