Watches of Knightsbridge launches specialist site trading Rolex watches

OYSTERBAR is designed to educate younger watch enthusiasts and help them buy collectible vintage pieces.

The team behind prestige timepiece auctioneer Watches of Knightsbridge has created a specific business specialising in buying and selling vintage Rolexes.

OYSTERBAR has its own dedicated website currently offering around 80 Rolex watches, three quarters of which are priced at under £8,000.

There is an obvious bias towards rarer vintage pieces, with watches from almost every year back to 1966 on offer.

“OYSTERBAR makes it is simple for those searching for a Rolex from a specific year – such as a birth year watch or anniversary, either for themselves or as the perfect gift,” the company promises.

Watches of Knightsbridge founder and director Toby Sutton says Oysterbar is a natural extension of his auction business, and particularly suited to a growing cohort of younger watch enthusiasts and collectors.

“A website specialising in vintage Rolex is something we have wanted to do for some time. There is a growing interest in vintage and “neo-vintage” from a new and younger audience and we felt the need to introduce a website that brings the knowledge and expertise that is necessary with vintage watches and making it more commercial,” he says.

Every watch sold by OYSTERBAR will have a Certificate of Authenticity and one year mechanical warranty issued by the group’s experts after being serviced and tested in their workshop.

“The aim is not only to make it simple to buy a vintage Rolex in the same way as buying a modern pre-owned or new Rolex, but to also educating the buyers about the vintage Rolex at the same time. For example why a particular dial is rare or the background on a specific reference,” Mr Sutton describes.
