Watch collector iPad app races up download charts

A new iPad app created specifically for watch collectors by a team of developers based in Hamburg has been racing up the app charts since its release.

The app, called simply Watches, was released on August 15 and has since hit the #1 spot in the lifestyle app downloads chart in its home country of Germany and in Switzerland, as well as becoming the #2 lifestyle app in Spain and #7 in the US, allwithin the first seven days of its release.

Watches, the app, has been created to allow users to build up a virtual collection of luxury watches and display them in a virtual watch box that can be personalised to suit collectors’ tastes.

Users can add pictures of watches in their collections, with multiple views of high resolution images available, upload authenticity certificates, set reminders for the date of watches’ next service and share information and images with other users.

The app, which is free to download for a basic version, has been created by four young developers – Benedikt lehnert, Haiko Wick, Julius Schaeper and Mathias Becker – who all have a passion for mechanical watches. The foursome, who are all watch collectors themselves, worked with watch dealers and other collectors in the creation of the app.
